John sees the Dentist

I've been meaning to up date but this weekend has been crazy and I am trying to get ready for my trip on Wednesday.

John had some urgent dental work done this weekend....I wouldn't call it emergency but it needed to be done quickly because he was complaining and quite uncomfortable. Poor kid, when our family dentist's colleague looked at him she said that he needed a tooth pulled that she didn't think that it could be fixed. She referred us to a pediatric dentist in the city (1 hour away), the appointment was for Saturday morning. Michael had to take a couple of hours off work, I was thankful for his company. It was kind of funny, they gave him, "sleep juice" which was a strong sedative, it made him completely loopy. They sent us out to the waiting room to read him a story so it could take effect. When they came out 10 min later he got down from his chair and promptly smashed into the coffee table and said "Whoa, I'm dizzy dad." Michael had to carry him into the chair. It took a lot longer than we expected. He ended up having a tooth pulled, it was abscessed and a real mess. The one we thought would be pulled was filled, one they put a silver crown one and then he had 5 more fillings. Poor kid, I don't know what is wrong. My mom wondered if it could be because of all the drugs and stuff I was on while I carried him, that somehow interfered with the enamel formation on his teeth. I don't know but we now have to be a whole lot more vigilant with the brushing and flossing of his teeth. I hope we don't have to go through those drugs again, the coming down off of the was tough....it was like an emotional roller coaster, one minute crying the next laughing and you never knew what was going to set him off.

We had promised to take him to McDonald's after the appointment but with all the extra stuff he had done, he was in no shape, so we went after church on Sunday. It was kind of funny because none of us could remember the last time we were at McDonald's. I guess our new spending habits have really taken hold. It was a nice treat, made nicer by not having been in such a long time.
